Who is Le.Jack

Le. Jack investigates the androgyny within all of us. They say, ‘we have a feminine and masculine energy. It’s not about gender, it’s our yin and yang.’ Male energy represents decisiveness and directness, whereas the feminine is a source of nurture and empathy. Their work seeks out and balances these elements, using clay to explore feminine and masculine forms, blending them together in pieces that teeter between the abstract and the figurative. The physicality of working with clay lends itself beautifully to an organic merging of forms. As someone who has trained as a blacksmith and stained-glass artisan, the three dimensional is a natural way for Le. Jack to express themselves. They have gained a mastery of materials, so now they can push the boundaries of technique.

My Creative practice

I am a multi disciplinary maker and artist and I chose to make sculptures, which can be shown within the home or in the garden.  I thrive on a challenge, am constantly learning new techniques and applying new ideas.  I am a student and a master of many materials but always, learning, playing, and challenging.

Clay is very tactile, it enables a real felt connection to the earth. Hours of work spent on a single piece can lead to major disasters giving me the opportunity to learn more deeply as a maker. It also challenges my precision as a craftsperson against the playfulness of being an artist. There is always a need to reflect, let go and definitely be in the moment.

Then there’s the excitement of working with metal. It can be guarding and protective but it can also be very gentle. There is something magical about heating a piece of hard metal, watching the colour change and glow red, seeing it becoming soft and pliable but with the need of physical force to move it. A – a true body- mind to- material connection.

Add to the mix the use of glass, with its strength and fragility. There’s a real sense of the divine in its ability to change the energy of a space through its light and colour refraction.

To conclude

Being an artist enables me to show myself fully, my creativity is my natural language, no force it just is. It enables me to explore the personal and worldly questions whilst being in the moment with the physicality of my art.
